Let’s compare. In New York City, the Democratic mayoral primary just made history. Zohran Mamdani, a 33-year-old Muslim and democratic socialist, surged past former Governor Andrew Cuomo, winning nearly 43.5 percent of the vote in the June 24 primary. He is now on track to become the city’s first Muslim mayor. Like it or not, that’s a seismic shift in the political landscape of America’s largest city.
Meanwhile in Watertown? Crickets.
Even Lisa Ruggiero—the only city council candidate who voted for what many still call the golden age—never actually ran on the fact that she voted for Trump. Not a single candidate in this city campaigned with that as part of their message. No bold statements. No rallies for working-class, pro-America voters. No acknowledgment of the thousands of residents here who still believe in that vision. They all ignored the Trump base entirely, as if it didn’t exist.
So what gives, Watertown?
New York City just embraced a candidate who breaks every mold. Back home, our own candidates couldn’t even say the name Trump without checking the wind first. There was no fire, no real push, just whispers and worn-out slogans. Nobody dared to tap into the populist energy that helped define our national conversation over the past decade.
Watertown needs leaders who aren’t afraid to stand up and say, “Yes, I voted for Trump, and here’s what I believe in.” We need bold ideas, not timid silence. It’s time someone stepped forward and gave this city a reason to care again.
Because change is already here. And if we don’t get in front of it, we’ll just keep watching from the sidelines while history passes us by.

Watertown needs that fearless voice willing to acknowledge Trump voters and fight for working class values This commentary is more than critique it is a call to action
Spot on Meanwhile in NYC Zohran Mamdani’s rise is reshaping politics History is happening and Watertown cannot afford to sit on the sidelines,
Watertown Post You are a NAZI, FULLSTOP!
Finally someone pointing out that silence is a position too Watertown needs to wake up and address all its voters head on not just whisper.
This guy’s plan is totally nuts.. city run grocery stores and socialist pipe dreams are gonna bankrupt NYC lol cant belive people actually support this anti‑semite comrade
The Watertown post is run by a NAZI named Hans Wilder, A true piece of shit.. FAKE NEWS 100 percent. go back to FLORIDA we don’t want you here!
Mamdani winning is a real gamechanger some ppl are overjoyed that NYC might finally get some real progress no more old guard politics
No Kings
It’s abt time someone stood up for working class families free transit and rent control matters these ppl are trumpeting change
This socialist guy wants city run grocerys and free buses lol cant belive they fall for it NYC is goin broke 🙂
Critics from the right are calling him an antisemite, a communist, and even associating him with terrorism. Right‑wing figures like Rep. Elise Stefanik, Laura Loomer and Stephen Miller have leveled harsh accusations. Many say change doesn’t need to go this far.
If someone’s got the brains, the work ethic, and they love this city, I don’t care where they’re from or what they believe. Let ’em lead.
How’s that gonna work when half the town still thinks Barack Obama was from Kenya?
As long as they fix the potholes and lower my taxes, I’ll vote for a Buddhist from the Moon.
Next thing you know we’ll have kung fu lessons at City Hall and prayer rugs in the parking lot—might not be the worst thing.
The Watertown Post acting like it’s The New York Times again. Calm down, it’s still just a blog with a Facebook comment section.
Every time I read The Watertown Post, I lose a few IQ points. Y’all write like you’re angry at a pothole.
Say what you want, but The Watertown Post actually talks about what everyone else is too scared to touch. That’s real journalism.
Can’t wait for the next hot take from The Watertown Post; maybe a 3,000-word rant on how Dollar General is part of a globalist plot
Other media around here just copy press releases. The Watertown Post actually has an opinion and holds people accountable. Respect.
Not gonna lie The Post is unhinged in the best way possible. Keep dropping those truth bombs.
Lowkey The Watertown Post is the only thing keeping this city spicy. Everyone else plays it safe but y’all go off.
Fuck you and Watertown
It’s giving local chaos energy and I’m here for it. Every city needs a watchdog with a WiFi connection and zero chill
I looked at the ballot, saw no one riding the Trump train, and walked right back to my truck.
Voting for who? Nobody said ‘Trump’ once, felt like choosing between warm milk and stale toast.
I showed up ready to vote, realized it was a woke bake sale, and dipped.
Sorry sweetie, I’m not voting for anyone still clinging to that orange fever dream. This city needs progress, not a time machine to 2016.
No MAGA? No ballot. Call me when someone shows up with a spine and a red hat.
Did Cliff Olney win the wright in?
I think the guy runs it from Florida so its not even a local paper.
i aint vote cuz there wasnt no real canidate all fake politishins no TRUMP no point

I been here 50 years and I aint seen worse picks than this time no wonder no one votes
They all talk nice durin campane then forget your name after the signs come down.
This city went to hell when they stoped teaching cursive and started saying Happy Holidays smh no wonder the ballot looked like a circus tent..
They silenced the patriot voice again rigged from the start no red wave in this clown town
The only red I support is a nice wine and a good lipstick okurrr keep that MAGA mess in the dumpster.
i wrote in for the guy with the weird mustache just for chaos purposes 😂
If this town had any guts they’d put a Marine on the ballot not another real estate agent
I aint been here long but i see how things work and believe me next time inshallah i’ll be running for council maybe even mayor one day lol
I know some ppl don’t like change but trust me it’s comin anyway. This little city gonna look different in 5 yrs. mark my words
