Bordering the southeastern shoreline of Lake Ontario, Oswego County is one of Central New York’s most diverse and geographically significant regions. Lake Ontario provides exceptional salmon, trout, bass, walleye, and perch fishing, while Oneida Lake is widely regarded as one of New York State’s premier walleye fisheries. Industry also plays an important role in the county’s economy. The Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station and James A. FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant are among the region’s largest employers and generate significant amounts of electricity for New York State. Agriculture remains equally important, with dairy farming, crop production, orchards, maple syrup, and family-owned farms helping define much of the county’s rural landscape.

Oswego County is also home to the State University of New York at Oswego, one of the State University system’s oldest campuses. Combined with a strong manufacturing base, healthcare, tourism, education, and small business community, the county continues to be an important economic engine for Central New York.
