Star Lake, New York

During the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Star Lake grew as lumber companies harvested the region’s vast forests, while railroads connected the area with markets throughout New York State. Logging camps, mills, and rail transportation shaped the local economy for generations, leaving behind a rich industrial heritage that helped build many communities throughout the North Country. As the timber industry evolved, Star Lake gradually transitioned toward recreation, outdoor tourism, education, and small business while maintaining its close connection to the surrounding forests.
