What Does Watertown’s City Manager Actually Do?
Safety Concerns Raised Along Prospect Street
The Watertown Post has received several complaints and reader-submitted photographs showing dangerously overgrown grass near the corner of Prospect and Meadow streets.
Drivers attempting to turn left onto Meadow Street cannot clearly see vehicles approaching from the direction of Coffeen Street. One resident reported nearly striking a man riding an e-bike because the overgrowth obstructed the driver’s view.
Neighbors say the property and surrounding sidewalks have presented problems for years. This is also an important pedestrian route into downtown, used by children catching school buses, residents without vehicles, older adults and people with disabilities. In some areas, the sidewalks are reportedly difficult and potentially dangerous to navigate.
At this time, The Watertown Post does not know who is legally responsible for maintaining the affected area. It may be the property owner, the City of Watertown or another responsible party. The residents could also be elderly, disabled or otherwise unable to perform the necessary maintenance and may require assistance.
This is not about making accusations. It is about identifying a legitimate public-safety hazard. We respectfully ask the City of Watertown to inspect the location, determine who is responsible and help ensure the grass and sidewalks are properly addressed before someone is seriously injured.
