Located in the heart of southern Jefferson County, Adams is one of Northern New York’s oldest and most historic communities. Positioned along U.S. Route 11 and Interstate 81, approximately 15 miles south of Watertown, the village has long served as a commercial, agricultural, and transportation hub for the surrounding countryside. Known for its welcoming small-town atmosphere, historic downtown, and close-knit community, Adams remains an important center for residents throughout the South Jefferson region. The village and town are named in honor of President John Adams, and settlement began around 1800, with the village incorporating in 1851.

Agriculture has shaped Adams for more than two centuries. Family farms, dairy operations, crop production, maple syrup, and agricultural businesses continue to play an important role in the local economy while preserving the rural character that defines much of southern Jefferson County.
