We’re following breaking news out of Watertown where a major accident on Interstate 81 has created widespread disruption across the city.
Authorities report a large multi-vehicle crash involving up to sixteen vehicles near the Watertown center stretch of I-81. The incident forced an immediate shutdown of sections of the interstate, with emergency crews flooding the scene.
As a result, traffic has been diverted off the highway and pushed directly into city streets, turning Watertown into a gridlocked mess for much of the day. Arsenal Street, Coffeen Street, and surrounding routes have all seen heavy congestion as drivers attempt to navigate around the closure.
Police, fire, and EMS units remain on scene managing the situation, assisting those involved, and working to safely clear the wreckage.
At this time, the full extent of injuries is still being assessed, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Drivers are strongly advised to avoid the area, expect delays, and use alternate routes whenever possible.
We’ll continue to monitor this developing situation and bring you updates as more information becomes available.
