Jim Leven, operator of WATN 1240, has announced an expansion into the Ogdensburg region—bringing some of Watertown’s most recognizable local radio voices to a much larger North Country audience.
That means listeners farther north will now have greater access to Glenn Curry’s Live at Five, the Jeff Graham Show at noon, and the local conversations that have helped make WATN a North Country institution.
And depending on the strength and reach of the new signal, it might not stop at the border. It could potentially drift into communities around the southern suburbs of Ottawa—because apparently radio waves, much like Canadian wildfire smoke, do not bother checking in with customs.
The Watertown Post welcomes the expansion and looks forward to WATN reaching new listeners throughout St. Lawrence County, along the Canadian border and perhaps even into the Ottawa region.
We also hope the expanded audience brings more Canadian voices and perspectives into discussions about the issues affecting both sides of the border.
Congratulations to Jim Leven, Glenn Curry, Jeff Graham and everyone involved. Local radio is not retreating. It is turning up the transmitter and heading north.
