Homeless Man Charged After Allegedly Stealing SUV From Watertown McDonald's
WATERTOWN, N.Y. — A homeless man is facing felony charges after Watertown police say he stole a vehicle from the parking lot of McDonald’s on Arsenal Street Friday morning.
According to police, 38-year-old Willie E. Goodwin Jr. was charged with third-degree grand larceny, a felony, and second-degree obstruction of governmental administration, a misdemeanor.
Authorities allege Goodwin stole a 2015 Kia Sorento valued at approximately $7,350 from the McDonald’s parking lot at 924 Arsenal Street around 8:20 a.m. Friday. Police later located him at a residence at 24 Church Street in Adams, where he was taken into custody.
Investigators further allege that Goodwin refused to identify himself while being processed at the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building later that morning, resulting in the additional obstruction charge.
Following arraignment in CAP Court, Goodwin was ordered held at the Jefferson County Jail with bail set at $2,500 cash.
For this writer, the address listed in Adams brings back memories. The Church Street property was once my grandmother’s house, and years ago there was even a fish store operating there. It’s a reminder of how dramatically communities, businesses, and individual properties can change over the decades. What was once a place associated with family memories and local commerce now finds itself appearing in police reports — proof that time has a way of rewriting the stories attached to every address.
