Hubble study examines missing oxygen in dwarf galaxies
NASA reported Monday that Hubble observations of 37 nearby dwarf galaxies suggest stellar explosions can drive oxygen out of small galaxies more effectively than theoretical models predict. The work examines how these galaxies lose material produced by stars. Researchers have not settled whether the oxygen remains in surrounding halos or travels farther into intergalactic space. That unresolved destination is part of the scientific question, rather than a conclusion of the study. NASA research report.
