Salmon Run Mall Is the Real Opportunity for the new 1000 Islands Convention Center
-Watertown NY, By Hans Wilder
A few months ago, after the original 1000 Islands Event Center proposal appeared to be dying, the Watertown Post offered a practical solution: forget building another expensive structure from scratch and transform Salmon Run Mall into an event and entertainment center.
Now, the Thousand Islands Local Development Corporation has publicly confirmed that it is considering exactly that. The group has even sent a letter to Pyramid Management Group expressing interest in the mall.
Vice Chairman Mike Campbell described Salmon Run as an idea that recently came “out of the sky.”
Out of the sky?
Apparently, the sky’s address is WatertownPost.com.
To be clear, this remains preliminary. No feasibility study has been completed, renovation costs haven’t been calculated, and no deal has been announced. However, the exact idea we proposed months ago is now being formally explored.
We had also spoken privately with someone in a position to know, and the indications were that this possibility was gaining real momentum. We protected that conversation, as promised. Now the matter is public.
Once again, the Watertown Post was ahead of the curve. We see possibilities, we put ideas into the community—and yes, people in the right places apparently listen.
Not bad for a guy supposedly operating from his mother’s basement while waiting for his noon bologna sandwich.
