Six stories for Sunday, November 1, 2026, followed by Watertown weather and local fuel prices.
Move Over Enforcement
A road-safety enforcement campaign begins tomorrow across New York, including North Country highways. State Police, transportation crews and the Thruway Authority are marking Crash Responder Safety Week from November second through sixth. Troopers will focus on drivers who endanger people working or stopped beside the road. The state’s Move Over Law extends beyond emergency vehicles to other vehicles stopped on highway shoulders. Drivers should reduce speed, stay alert and move over when it is safe.
Bulk Pickup Season Ends
Watertown residents have a final week to arrange seasonal bulk-waste collection. The city says the last collection day this season is Friday, November sixth. The service will pause over winter and is expected to return next spring. Residents should check accepted items, charges and available pickup arrangements with Public Works before putting large items outside. The department will announce the official spring restart date later.
Henderson Sewer Funding
Henderson’s sewer project has reached a funding milestone. The town says it has received a twenty-two-point-two-two-million-dollar Water Infrastructure Improvement grant and that the project is now fully funded. Residents approved the project in August. The planned service area includes the harbor community, rather than the entire town. Planning comes before construction, which is expected in twenty twenty-eight and twenty twenty-nine. That schedule is a project expectation, not work already completed.
Campfire Caution
Outdoor recreationists in the North Country are being urged to take extra care with fire. New York’s environmental agency says dry conditions have raised fire danger beyond what is typical for this time of year. Rangers have encountered fires caused by unattended or poorly extinguished campfires. The agency discourages campfires outside established rings or pits. If a fire is necessary, keep it small, soak and stir the coals, and make sure everything is cool before leaving. Check local restrictions as well.
Winter Parking Rule
Watertown’s winter overnight parking restriction is now in effect. From November first through April thirtieth, parking on city streets is prohibited between two and six in the morning. The city says this gives Public Works crews room to keep streets plowed. Read posted signs and arrange a legal off-street space before leaving a vehicle overnight. The seasonal restriction applies even when a particular evening feels more like autumn than winter.
National: Health Coverage
Nationally, the enrollment season for next year’s marketplace health coverage begins today. HealthCare dot gov says consumers can apply, renew or change plans, with December fifteenth the deadline for coverage starting January first. State-run marketplaces can have different closing dates. Here in New York, the state health department says enrollment for qualified health plans runs through January thirty-first. Free enrollment assistance is available. Compare premiums, out-of-pocket costs, doctors and prescription coverage before choosing a plan.
Watertown Weather
Now the Watertown forecast. Tonight will be partly cloudy, with a low around forty-five. Wind will be from the south at five to seven miles an hour. Monday will be mostly sunny, with a high near sixty-three and southwest wind at six to nine. Those are the National Weather Service’s current forecast values, and conditions can change.
Local Fuel Prices
Finally, local fuel prices. Triple A’s November first averages for Watertown and Fort Drum put regular at about four dollars thirty-nine cents a gallon, down just under one cent from yesterday. Diesel averages about six dollars forty-seven cents, down just under two cents. These are area averages, so individual stations can differ.
