Essex County receives a factory-built housing award
New York’s October 23 MOVE-IN NY announcement awards the Essex County Land Bank $7.26 million for 24 homes. The statewide round supports 61 homes with nearly $20 million. The programme uses factory-built housing placed on prepared sites, with homes sold below construction cost to eligible low- and moderate-income purchasers. The award is a planned housing investment, rather than confirmation that the homes are finished or available immediately. Prospective buyers should follow the land bank’s actual project announcements and application information.

Mountain Peak training continues at Fort Drum
Fort Drum’s October advisory lists the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Mountain Peak exercise for October 20 through Thursday, October 29. The scheduled activity includes infantry maneuvers, force-on-force training, aviation support and indirect long-range fires ahead of a Joint Readiness Training Center rotation. The Army warns of increased activity and noise within the training area. That advisory describes planned training; it does not establish the source of every sound heard nearby. The earlier October artillery-qualification dates are separate.

Regional calendar lists workforce development for Tuesday
Empire State Development’s published North Country Lunch & Learn series calendar lists workforce development for Tuesday, October 27. The virtual series connects businesses, nonprofit organizations, labor groups and education leaders with state-program information across the region’s seven counties. It is an information opportunity, not an individual grant award or a funding guarantee. Participants should consult the regional council’s current event and registration details. The time from the separate March session should not be treated as the time for October’s listing.

Northern Zone regular deer season is underway
The official 2026–27 New York Hunting & Trapping Guide lists the Northern Zone regular deer season from October 24 through December 6. The season continues after its opening weekend. Different dates and conditions apply to other zones, methods and wildlife-management units, and a general calendar does not establish access to a particular parcel or the validity of a particular tag. Hunters should use the current guide and area-specific information, and other woodland visitors should plan for hunting activity while sharing the outdoors.

Crane lists a week of upcoming performances
The Crane School of Music’s performance list includes the Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble and Horn Choir on Tuesday, October 27, at 7:30 p.m. in Hosmer Hall. The Trombone Choir and Trumpet Ensemble follow there Thursday, October 29, at the same time. The calendar also lists the Eclectic Ensemble Wednesday and the Mariachi Ensemble Friday. These are this week’s upcoming entries, distinct from the previous week’s Wind Ensemble concert. Check the college’s current programme, venue and access information before attending.

NASA tracks autumn pigments from orbit
NASA Earth Observatory’s October 26 feature explains how the PACE satellite’s Ocean Color Instrument follows changing leaf pigments using many wavelengths of light. Its featured maps compare observations from late September and early October, rather than showing tonight’s live foliage conditions. Ground-level photographs help scientists check and interpret the satellite measurements. The research connects familiar fall colors with seasonal change and vegetation health, combining a broad orbital view with observations made by people on the ground.
Programme illustrations are original explanatory artwork, not documentary photographs or satellite-data graphics. Sources were checked on October 26, 2026.
