Evening Rundown with Samantha Reyes
The Evening Rundown with Samantha Reyes for Sunday, October 25, 2026, follows two regional development questions, Fort Drum winter preparation, college soccer and an upcoming family science event. The national update examines a NASA simulation milestone. Sponsored by DigitalMediaUSA.com. Your region. A new way to stay informed.
Events center options remain unsettled
A retrofit of Salmon Run Mall remains among the ideas discussed for the proposed Thousand Islands Events Center in the Town of Watertown. Supporters see potential in adapting an existing building for a multipurpose sports facility, while the development group continues to face uncertainty over funding. Recent discussion has not established a completed purchase, a fully financed construction programme or an opening date. The distinction matters for residents and businesses assessing the proposal: an option under discussion is not yet an operating facility.
Lewis County watches a possible Marcy chip project
Lewis County officials are considering how a proposed semiconductor plant near Utica might affect the region. Recent reporting describes a potential $45 billion development in Marcy, with 5,000 jobs anticipated if it proceeds. The company has not been publicly identified in that reporting, and approvals remain part of the process. Possible regional effects include demand for housing, employment opportunities and supplier businesses. These are prospective effects, rather than jobs already created in Lewis County or a guarantee that the factory will be built.
Fort Drum prepares for winter
The Fort Drum Safety Office is offering winter driving and snow blower operation courses for soldiers, Army civilian employees and family members. The classes began earlier in October and continue through mid-March. The driving programme covers vehicle preparation, hazard awareness and emergency supplies; the equipment course addresses operation, maintenance and avoiding accidents. The Army’s October 21 report directs community members to the Events tab in the My Army Post App for schedules and the Garrison Safety Office for registration. This is seasonal preparation, not an imminent-storm forecast.

Dragonfly completes a simulated first flight
NASA reported October 23 that Dragonfly completed its most comprehensive simulated first flight to date on flight-like computers at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory in Maryland. The test combined simulated sensor data and navigation systems to rehearse finding a safe landing site. It was not a flight on Titan. The rotorcraft’s mission to Saturn’s largest moon is scheduled to launch no earlier than 2028, with arrival planned for 2034. Further hardware and fault-response tests remain ahead.
